Food brings people together cutting across geographical boundaries. Starting from satiating the tastebuds (and the tummy too!) to nourishing the soul, a bowl of scrumptious meal does it all. However, good food does a little more than just these. It provides us the nutrition that our body needs. But unfortunately, nutritional value isn’t on our radar when it comes to choosing food. This is especially true in case of today’s kids who are inevitably drawn towards unhealthy options. In order to ignite the interest of children towards food and nudge them towards healthy choices, HT School and Slurrp, in collaboration with Lupin, recently conducted the largest food quiz of India: Lupin Aptivate Achchi Bhook School Foodie Quiz 2022.
“Aptivate’s brand vision ‘acchi bhook’ is to build healthy eating habits amongst children and this student-centric food quiz gave us the perfect opportunity to strengthen our efforts in this direction. Helping kids develop a healthy appetite and improve their dietary regime by generating curiosity about food through fun facts is a great way of achieving what we, as a brand, aim to,” says Anil Kaushal, Head, Lupin Consumer Healthcare Business.
Meant for students of Grades 1 to 6, the Lupin Aptivate Achchi Bhook School Foodie Quiz 2022 had kicked off on 30th October with the Prelims and culminated in the Finale on 5th November. The Prelims round saw over 10,000 registrations from all across India and as many as 160 teams battled in the final round to grab prizes worth Rs. 2.5 lakhs. The hour-long Finale, conducted on Zoom by revered quizmasters, Dr. Navin Jayakumar, Mr. Meghashyam Shirodkar and Mr. Avinash Mudaliar, had 35 questions in type-in and multiple-choice formats. This tag-team quiz allowed kids and parents to participate as a team, strengthening their bond further.
HT School had a hearty conversation with the finalists, all brimming with the excitement to be part of India’s largest food quiz. Here is what they shared about their journey through the Lupin Aptivate Achchi Bhook School Foodie Quiz 2022.
Janani Nagaraj and her son Hrudaya Nagaraj from Chennai are happy foodies. “We love eating and discussing about food and this is the first time Hrudaya participated in a food quiz. So, both of us enjoyed it thoroughly,” shares Janani. “I am glad that I got the chance to participate in the Finale. The questions on Jagannath Puri and the Chicken 65 were my favourites,” adds Hrudaya. Janani further elucidated that she enjoyed the type-in questions more than the multiple-choice ones. “In the answers that we typed out, we connected the clues from the question itself. That’s what we loved the most,” she explains.
Another parent-child duo from Delhi, Supradeep C (father) and Vivaan C (son), shared that although they belong to South India, they loved the question on a Kashmiri Wazwan. “Food indeed connects us all. We liked the Pan-India essence of the quiz. Not just food, it helped us improve other genres as well, starting from science, art and culture to history and geography,” says Supradeep. He also went on to add that the questions were very well-formulated. “We had to pay attention and connect all the dots. It was like a treasure hunt,” adds Vivaan. Both of them also liked the questions on guacamole and spiciest chilli peppers.
Shedding light on how she prepared for the quiz, Chennai-based student Kaarunya Nandakumar says, “Reading cookbooks is my hobby and this helped me a lot to prepare for this food quiz.” Mom to this master-chef-in-the-making, Prasana Sridhar reveals that they are a family of food enthusiasts. “Whenever we get a chance, we travel and experiment with food. This helped us qualify for the Finale,” she says.
Echoing a similar spirit, another student from Delhi, Anay Gupta, says, “Hands-on experience in the kitchen helped me with my preparations. I love cooking my own food and often gift my loved ones with home-cooked food. I even have my own YouTube channel where I post heathy food recipes for my peers.”
Talking about the modus operandi of their preparation, Indu Jain, mother of Aaditya Jain, Noida, revealed that they went through a wide range of sources including the episodes of MasterChef India, Google, and Quizverse. “This platform has a plethora of resources that can pique the minds of any budding quizzer. We are looking forward to learning more here,” says Indu. Quizverse is HT School’s online quizzing community for students. It aims to encourage kids enjoy their learning experience through fun-filled interactions.
The Finale of Lupin Aptivate Achchi Bhook School Foodie Quiz 2022 covered a wide range of topics including world cuisines, science behind food, different types of diets, food and nutrition, food sources, food facts, food groups, ayurvedic foods, food and health, history of food, and the origin of food. What made the Finale so entertaining and immersive was the blend of its easy, tough, tricky and interesting questions.
While all the participants thoroughly enjoyed the food quiz, they also shared their inputs on the other kinds of quizzes they would like to attend. Interestingly, most of them voted for a geography quiz. Delhi-based student Paavika Gaur says, “I would love to be a part of a geography quiz focussed on India.” Laakshya Singh, hailing from Delhi, on the other hand, prefers history and mythology as topics.
This fun-filled conversation with the participants of Lupin Aptivate Achchi Bhook School Foodie Quiz 2022 bears testimony to what eminent quizmaster Mr. Mudaliar believes. “Every kid is a seeker and quizzing take them on a quest for knowledge. What really matters is that the children enjoy this journey of fun and knowledge, and not just focus on the destination,” he observes.
