Coding is a new age skill in this fast-paced, tech-driven world. That is why it has become imperative for today’s youngsters to master it to further their academic and professional careers. Keeping this in mind, HT School is back with the second edition of much-awaited Hindustan Times Code-a-thon 2022, one of the largest coding Olympiads in India. This online national level Olympiad is a one-stop destination for school students to learn the A to Z of coding, practise and showcase their coding skills with the opportunity to grab exciting prizes on the way. The awards include INR 5 lakh worth hampers, widespread promotion via the Hindustan Times network on print, digital, social media and radio, and certificates of completion as well as participation.
Meant for all students of grades IV to IX, HT Code-a-thon will kick off with the Qualifier round on 18th February and conclude with the Finale on 26th February. Both the levels will have around 15 to 20 multiple-choice questions for a duration of approximately 60 to 90 minutes. The questions will be auto-graded. Top 100 students from each grade will qualify for the final round. Top 3 students from each grade will be declared as champions. Interested candidates can now register on the official website for INR 499 (plus GST) till 5th February.
The second edition of HT Code-a-thon is presented by the Chhattisgarh Government and has Intel as its partner and Acer as its technical partner. “During the Covid-19 lockdown, Chhattisgarh was one of the first Indian states to have introduced online learning through the portal ‘Padhai Tunhar Duar’ meaning ‘Education at Your Doorstep’ in English. This was because we strongly believe that technology, when used appropriately and effectively, can further the field of education. Thus, Chhattisgarh Government is thrilled to be the presenting partner of HT Code-a-thon, a coding competition organised by the Hindustan Times, as it promises to integrate learning through technology,” said Bhupesh Baghel, the Honourable Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.
HT Code-a-thon 2022 has different learning modules for different grades. For instance, grade IV students will be given the opportunity to kickstart their coding journey by learning game designing with Scratch, while grade V students will learn all about app designing using the MIT App Inventor. In contrast, grade VI students will learn how to design and develop their own websites and grade VII students will focus largely on game development on the Unity platform. Students of grade VIII and IX will primarily deal with Python language wherein they will get innovative opportunities to solve real-world problems using Python and Python with AI. “Acer is delighted to partner with Hindustan Times for the upcoming HT Code-a-thon. We are looking forward to offer state-of-the-art technological services to new-age students in order to further their coding ambitions and this coding Olympiad is the right step in that direction,” said Sooraj Balakrishnan, Head of Marketing, Acer, India and Bangladesh.
This coding Olympiad will help students improve their problem-solving skills by turning complex coding problems into smaller and simpler ones. This will make it easier for them to manage the issue with a logical and systematic approach, and boost structural thinking. In addition, the competition will sharpen analytical skills by pushing youngsters to come up with the right strategies and nurture their mathematical skills at the same time.
HT Code-a-thon 2022 will also have children fine-tune their creative thinking, imagination and innovation, apart from making them tech savvy. Above all, it will help the new age kids learn the art of perseverance, deep thinking, patience, attention to details, healthy competition and better communication – resulting in holistic development. The competition will also inspire budding young coders test their coding skill and further it with loads of challenges and exciting opportunities on the way.
