If you are a cricket enthusiast, you might eagerly be waiting for the much-anticipated ICC T20 World Cup that is scheduled to kickstart in mid-October in Australia. Ahead of that, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled a brand-new jersey for Team India to wear in the mega event. However, prior to that, the jersey is going to debut in the three-match T20I series against Australia, that is to be held 20th September onwards. The team is also going to don it in their T20 series against South Africa that is scheduled to begin on 28th September.
Earlier, during the last T20 World Cup, tech giant Oppo was Indian team’s official jersey sponsor in September 2019, who has been replaced by MPL Sports this time. Here’s what you need to know about the new jersey of Team India.
The all-new jersey at a glance
Team India’s all-new jersey comes in dual tone: While most of the kit is in light tones of azure blue, the sleeves and the shoulders feature dark shades of royal blue. The left side of the jersey sports a small yet distinctive design of equilateral triangle as well. The jersey’s upper right side also contains petals from the BCCI’s official logo that symbolises merit and loyalty in the game of cricket. It also symbolises the equality between the male and female cricketers of the nation.
What’s interesting here is that, for the first time in the history of Indian cricket, the team jersey was not launched by the men’s national team, but by the under-19 women cricketers in Mumbai and some of their notable superfans.
What does the new jersey signify?
Considering the new jersey comes in variant shades of blue, it has been deemed as ‘One Blue Jersey.’ According to sources, the jersey is a homage to the national team’s fans across different age groups and genders, and transcending geographical borders. In addition, the equilateral triangular pattern symbolises the blend of sportsman spirit, combination of energy, and athletic power. The entire design is supposed to celebrate the unparalleled support of fans over the years.
