The list of eminent speakers for the felicitation ceremony included luminaries like Laxmikant Dubey, AVP – Sales and Circulation, Hindi Hindustan, Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examination, CBSE (Chief Guest), Br. Maheshwara Chaitanya, Director of Admissions & Deputy Controller of Examinations, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Praveen Gadelli, Director, SpeEdLabs and Swaati Jain, Editorial Director, Oswaal Books.
Speaking on the occasion, Laxmikant Dubey, AVP – Sales and Circulation, Hindi Hindustan said, “Some eight years ago, we thought of connecting with the future readers and giving them something substantial which would not only help them academically, but also give them a vision for the future. With that thought in mind, we planned the concept of an Olympiad to give some direction to the young generation in the Hindi heartland, including Bihar, UP, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand.”
Sharing his thoughts, the chief guest for the evening, Dr. Bhardwaj mentioned, “Education is not only the responsibility of schools and teachers alone; society too has to play an equally active role. The initiative undertaken by Hindustan Times demonstrates how private and corporate businesses can also accept their social responsibility to increase access to education and develop the skills needed for the India of the future. Competitions like these also contribute to a nation’s development as students from across India’s grassroot levels get an opportunity to participate and upgrade their knowledge levels.”
Further emphasising the need to enhance education, Br. Maheshwara Chaitanya observed, “Technology is evolving so fast that all students irrespective of which stream they’re pursuing are required to be problem-solvers these days. When you participate in a competition like the Hindustan Olympiad, your problem-solving abilities get increased, and you get to understand your strengths and weaknesses better. Utilising such opportunities to excel in our chosen subject is a must.”
Praveen Gadelli, Director, SpeEdLabs, averred, “It’s an honour for us to be a part of such an initiative like the Hindustan Olympiad which encourages and supports students in learning and doing better for themselves. We aim to bring the technology element into classrooms and show the path ahead to the students.”
Swaati Jain focused on how to help school kids' amp up their learning beyond academics. Explaining more on this, she opined, “The love for learning is extremely important and has to be instilled in children at an early age. When a child is curious and asks a lot of questions, he/she will be motivated to excel in life even at a later stage. Events like Olympiad make children go beyond academics by providing an impetus for critical thinking and problem solving.”
The winners of the Hindustan Olympiad were divided into two categories: State toppers (total 124) and District toppers (total 1541). The candidates with the highest marks in their grade from among all participants from their state were selected as state toppers. Those who scored the highest marks in their grade from among all participants from their district were selected as district toppers. If a state topper had already emerged from a district, the next highest scorer from that district was named as the district topper. In the case of a tie, the student who took the shortest time was declared as the winner.
The cherry on top of this event was the vast array of prizes awarded to the winners. The state toppers from each grade received cash scholarship worth Rs 5,100 along with a trophy and a merit certificate. On the other hand, district toppers took home cash scholarship worth Rs 2,100 and a merit certificate. Likewise, the school toppers were awarded the certificate of participation.
