The education space underwent an unprecedented transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic that not only affected learners but also other stakeholders. The new normal ushered in significant changes, shifting education from the four walls of a classroom to the virtual space with a highly tech-driven approach. In order to help students, parents, teachers and other stakeholders adjust better to the newly-evolved education scenario, Hindustan Times conceived the Hindustan Times Education Summit (HTES), which will be held on 24th August at the Hyatt Regency, Delhi. HTES, which will revolve around the theme ‘Education Meets Innovation: Transforming Learning Through Technological Interventions’, will be live streamed on YouTube. Online registrations are live now and will remain open till 24th August 8 am. Click here to register.
The event will be led by an inaugural keynote speech by Union Minister of State (MoS) for Education, Dr. Subhas Sarkar, followed by another from Union Minister for Science and
Technology (independent charge), Dr. Jitendra Singh. There will also be exclusive sessions with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his counterpart from Chhattisgarh, Shri Bhupesh Baghel. While the MP CM will shed light on developing education in his state at the grassroot level, the Chhattisgarh CM will focus on ways to take education to the next level.
Shri Bhupesh Baghel, the Honourable Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, says, “As a son of the soil, it is my dream to ensure that every single student has access to the best education possible. I believe in the power of learning to create a brighter and more resurgent Chhattisgarh and our policies are reflection of the same. I am glad that HT through this summit will help highlight the crucial role of education in nation-building.”
Echoing a similar spirit, the Honourable Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, says, “Education is the pathway through which not just individuals but societies can improve and enhance their condition. The growth of a person is not possible without the growth of their mindset and perspective which is only achievable through the right education. This is what we aspire to provide to every child in Madhya Pradesh. I look forward to participate in the HTES to take the MP growth story to all the attendees of this prestigious event.”
The HTES brings together some of the brightest minds to encourage dialogues, drive changes and propel tomorrow’s leaders to greater heights. Apart from the ministers, HTES boasts of a panel of eminent speakers including Mr. Dhuwarakha Sriram, Chief of YuWaah, Youth Development and Partnerships at UNICEF; Mr. Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; Mr. Siddharth Chaturvedi, Executive Vice President of AISECT Group; Dr. Ram Shankar, Director, CBSE; Dr. Ameeta Wattal, Chairperson & Executive Director Education, Innovations and Training – DLF Foundation Schools and Scholarship Programme; Dr. Shayama Chona, Founder President of Tamana Association; Dr. Rajiv Singh, Director, Academics, National Institute of Open Schooling.
Sriram, who will elucidate on the topic of skill-based learning, is quite enthusiastic about the HTES. “Skilling is an important aspect of developing adolescents and youth as active agents of social change, making them employable and particularly crucial to gain the demographic dividend. I am excited to be a part of the first HTES to discuss a theme that is close to my heart and is so necessary to ensure the growth curve for the young people and the country,” she says.
HTES intends to bring to light some of the most significant, yet less-talked about aspects of education, such as inclusivity. Sharing her thoughts on the topic, one of the eminent panellists, Dr. Shayama Chona, says, “Inclusivity is one of the very crucial factors which will bind the society. Through education we have to make people aware that no two persons are alike and all have to live in tolerance. Accepting differently-abled children is of utmost necessity if we want to live our dream of a fair society. So, inclusivity is one of the most important factors to be discussed in forums like this. I am so happy that Hindustan Times is taking up this subject in its summit.”
The Hindustan Times Education Summit will cover topics such as, Skill-Based Learning versus Knowledge-based Learning, Upskilling the Skiller: How can Technology Empower Teachers and Inclusive Learning: Can Technology be a Leveller? You can check the detailed agenda here.
The sessions will be moderated by Sunetra, National Political Editor, HT Editorial Team, Sarah Zia, HT Education Editor and educator Ms. Meeta Sengupta. Sharing her thoughts on the summit, Sengupta says, “Education is evolving to include students and overcome traditional barriers by using the tools provided by technology. As educators, we need to rise to the challenges of innovating new pedagogies and spaces for better learning outcomes. HTES is the right step towards that direction.”
