The COP26 Climate meet is set to take place on October 31 in Glasgow in order to discuss climate change and its challenges. This meet aims to agree on taking more drastic measures against climate change- primarily deeper global emission cuts. The Sixth Assessment Report (AR) of the IPCC analysed and assessed the global warming situation and stated some guidelines regarding the same. The COP26 will involve the discussion of this IPCC report and formulated a plan of action to tackle climate change effectively.
One of the main causes of the rise in temperature is greenhouse gas emissions. Currently, the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere is the highest it has ever been and the sea level is also rising at the fastest rate in at least 3000 years. Nations are trying to implement the goals of the Paris Agreement to keep warming under 1.5 degrees Celsius.
