According to a report by AQAir, a Swiss air quality technology company, Delhi was the most polluted capital in the world in 2020. This Swiss group ranked cities on the basis of their air quality measured in terms of the levels of ultrafine particulate matter (PM 2.5) that can enter human organs, causing long-lasting damage. According to a region-wise analysis for central and South Asia, the top 14 of the 15 most polluted cities, were in India. While Ghaziabad ranked at number one, Delhi was the 9th most polluted city. The report highlighted that Delhiās air pollution crisis worsens during the winter, starting from October due to external factors like neighbouring states burning crop residue.
