You must have wished to visit iconic places after seeing the beautiful architecture around the world in movies and shows. Let me tell you, if you are a Chinese resident, you can simply take a train and travel to Europe, Paris, Austria, and many other places without a passport. Sounds unreal, doesn't it? But it is true! Numerous famous towns and cities from around the world have been replicated in China. China has a Sphinx monument in Shenzhen, a World Trade Center building located at the window of the World Amusement Park, and many other well-known landmarks. Let's take a look at some cities and towns from around the world that China has recreated.
Paris In Zhejiang
Architects in a number of countries have replicated the Eiffel Tower. There is, for example, the Tokyo Tower in Japan. China, with its high-tech buildings and thriving metropolises, has taken the task of replica construction to a whole new level. They not only built the Eiffel Tower but also successfully replicated the entire city of Paris! Tianducheng, also known as the Sky City is a beautiful copy of the French city located in the Chinese province called Zhejiang. All of Paris's spectacular landmarks can be found in the Sky City. You'll find the Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysée, and their own recreations of the Luxembourg Garden’s fountain here! Of course, Paris is incomplete without the Eiffel tower. So, Chinese architects have built a 354-foot-tall replica of the Eiffel Tower too! Walking through this city will make you feel like you are in Paris. The illusion will only be broken when you approach the street vendors selling steamed dumplings instead of baguettes!
A British town In Shanghai
The United Kingdom is full of breath-taking scenery. But the Chinese recreation of a British town is so good that it will transport you to the actual British countryside. The ‘Thames Town’ in China, named after the river Thames, that runs through London, has brilliantly incorporated all of the classic features of a British town. This city just outside of Shanghai has cobblestone streets, Victorian terraces, and red telephone booths just like the ones you must have seen during a trip to London! The fake city even has statues of well-known figures like Florence Nightingale and William Shakespeare! China did not stop at that, they also constructed the Christ church in Bristol, pubs, and fish and chips shops like the ones in Lyme Regis, Dorset. But why do you think China has replicated a British town? Its purpose was to entice people from cities to relocate outside of cities and reduce housing and overcrowding issues! The project was completed in 2006 at a cost of more than $500 million!
Austria’s Hallstatt Village in Huizhou
Hallstatt is a fairy-tale town in Austria, located on the shores of the picturesque Lake Hallstatt. It is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2012, China spent over a billion dollars to build an exact replica of this town in the city of Huizhou! The stunning town of Hallstatt was built in China by a mining tycoon, and the reason for its construction is unknown. The entire construction plan was carried out in complete secrecy until an architect inadvertently left the blueprints at a Hallstatt hotel. The town's mayor was so moved by China's decision to rebuild his town in their country that he flew there. He signed documents pledging future ties with the country and opened the replica. The 16th-century houses and the nightly illuminated Christ Church look exactly like the original!
