Since March 2020, Covid-19 has been the biggest concern that the world has been reeling with. With the ongoing Omicron variant and the surge of cases during the third wave, India, along with the rest of the world has felt the rupture. But believe it or not, there are still some countries that have been left untouched by the deadly coronavirus. In fact, very recently, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has released a list of such countries that has reported zero cases of Covid-19 so far. Here’s 5 of them who managed to keep the novel coronavirus at bay since the beginning of the pandemic.
Tuvalu
Tuvalu is an island country in Oceania located in the South Pacific region and happens to be a part of the British commonwealth. The country’s border has been sealed since the announcement of the Covid-19 and people are also prohibited from travelling outside the country. As per reports, till date, Tuvalu did not report a single case of Covid-19 and have implemented several successful strategic vaccination plans, including the mass vaccination rollout in April 2021.
Tokelau
Tokelau is a country comprising of remote group of islands situated halfway at the centre between Hawaii and New Zealand. This US dependent territory is a popular travel destination, however, the restrictions imposed by the government ensured that the country never got touched with Covid-19. As per reports, almost 88.6 percent of the country’s scanty population are fully vaccinated.
Cook Islands
Like Tuvalu, Cook Islands too is situated in the South Pacific region and has close political ties with New Zealand, one of the few reasons why Covid-19 has not been able to enter the country. This small island country that is famous for snorkelling and scuba-diving has been close for the entire world since the beginning of the pandemic and has only recently opened itself on 13th January 2022 for just New Zealand. As per reports, 97 percent of the country’s population is fully vaccinated.
Kiribati
Kiribati or Republic of Kiribati is an island country situated in the central Pacific region that had completely sealed its borders and did not allow visitors to enter nor citizens to leave the country since Covid-19 began to spread worldwide. Majority of the people are also reported to be fully vaccinated even though the country has been safe from the deadly virus so far.
Nauru
Nauru is part of Micronesia and is situated in the north-eastern side of Australia. This small island nation was one of the first countries to have fully vaccinated 100 percent of its adult population in early 2021. The country was close to outsiders throughout 2020 and 2021, but with the advent of the new year 2022, it revised its travel guidelines and now allows fully vaccinated tourists.
