In fact, Gryffindor is the house most Harry Potter fans want to be in! Here are a few things that you might not know, even if you are a huge Harry Potter fan!
Godric's Hollow is named after Gryffindor
Yes, you read that right. Godric’s Hollow, a village in south-western England, was also named after Godric Gryffindor. After all, it was his home town! It is believed that the Potter family, the Dumbledore (headmaster of the Hogwarts School) family, and British witch Bathilda Bagshot, all lived there at one point or another. Lord Voldemort, an evil wizard was defeated for the first time at this location. It is most famous for being the home of new-born Harry Potter and his parents, Lily and James, where they were slain.
Gryffindor’s birth place is set in a real place
Well, there’s more to Godric's Hollow than we know. Potter fans can stay in a charming 14th-century cottage called de Vere House, that served as the setting for Godric's Hollow in multiple films. One of the films that featured this village was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One (2010). Different parts of de Vere House were cut up using computer graphics. This helped recreate the entire village of Godric’s Hollow in the film! In fact, the de Vere house is the second most photographed house in the entire UK, second only to 10, Downing Street of course!
In reality, de Vere House, is a real-life bed and breakfast situated in the pretty village of Lavenham, England. Two en suite bedrooms, a sitting room with a wood-burning fireplace, and a courtyard garden are included in the bed-and-breakfast, which is now available to book on Airbnb!
