The 94th edition of the Academy Awards, popularly known as Oscars, took place today. In this year’s Oscars, CODA, directed by US-based filmmaker Sian Heder, won in the Best Picture category, while Jane Campion won the Best Director’s award for his cutting-edge film ‘The Power of the Dog.” Also, for the first time ever, the Honorary Award was conferred to three individuals, namely: Samuel Jackson, Elaine May and Liv Ullmann.
Academy Awards 2022 will be etched in history for a shocking and ‘unscripted’ moment when revered Hollywood actor Will Smith punched one of the presenters, comedian Chris Rock on the face. According to media reports, the comedian joked about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith saying, “Jada, can’t wait for GI Jane 2.” This was in reference to Smith’s wife’s shaved head. She, according to the comedian, resembled Demi Moore from the 1997 film GI Jane where her character voluntarily shaves her head to conceal her femininity and confirm her position in the Navy Seal.
