One way to make fitness and exercise fun for kids is by embracing technology instead of blaming it. We have put together a list of easy-to-use trending apps that teach kids the value of fitness.
UNICEF Kid Power
UNICEF is keenly aware of the importance of physical activity for kids in the lockdown, which is why they have created two things which kids love: a power band or bracelet to check body parameters, and an accompanying mobile app to track steps. The Kid Power app has a humane side to it. Instead of earning digital points for steps, Kid Power donates Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food packets to kids in need. The benefits here are three-fold: kids get their steps through a fun game, kids in need receive the packets, and users learn and appreciate the value of helping others in need.
Discover Your Body
Older kids get to understand the importance of health from an anatomical perspective. The application teaches about the human body in an interactive way, walking users through the muscular, circulatory system, and skeletal systems. It also explains how nutrition and food is part of the body’s general health.
Cosmic Kids Yoga
A take-off on the very popular Youtube channel, that gained fame when pop-culture icons came for its videos. The app is colourful, interactive, fun and super easy to use. Most importantly, it keeps kids motivated to stick to a daily yoga schedule.
FitQuest Lite
This unique app encourages kids to walk over 10,000 steps per day. It uses puzzles to motivate kids to take more steps. The more steps a child accumulates via the app, the more puzzles they unlock which they then get to play. It focuses on activities like jogging, hopping, and dancing.
My Food - Nutrition for Kids
In the six main sections, kids can play guessing games about potted vegetables, pick and choose ingredients to make healthy meals, learn about nutrition choose from a diverse range of characters that encourages acceptance of all ethnicities. There is a downloadable handbook for parents or teachers to use with the app.
