Engineering and Medical streams continue to be the most sought-after career options in India for youngsters right out of schools. However, today’s young generation is also shifting their focus on general and vocational courses such as B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com, trying to find off-beat career options in the field of their interest.
Aligarh Muslim University conducts a national level entrance exam called AMUEE (Aligarh Muslim University Entrance Exam) for students pursuing these general undergraduate courses. Every year, the entrance test is held in the months of June or July. This year, the official dates are yet to be announced. However, the application window has been open on the university’s official website since the beginning of March and will remain so till the month of May. Here’s everything aspiring candidates need to know.

Exam pattern
All the courses, namely B.A., B.Sc. and B. Com have separate written exams as part of the entrance test. All of them have objective type multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The syllabus of all the exams follow the 10+2 curriculum of any recognised Indian school board.
In case of B.A. honours candidates, there is a single paper comprising of four sections namely Indo-Islamic culture and Aligarh Movement, English, Reasoning and Intelligence and General Awareness and Current Affairs. While the first two sections have 25 questions each, the third section has 10 questions followed by 40 questions in the final part. In total, there are 100 questions.
In case of B.Sc. honours candidates, there is also a single paper divided into five parts of 25 questions each, namely: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, English. In total, there are 100 questions.
In case of B. Com honours candidates, there is a single paper divided into 7 sections, namely: Economics, Elementary Mathematics and Statistics, Reasoning and Numerical Ability, General Awareness, Business Studies, Accountancy and English. The first four sections have 10 questions each, followed by 15 questions in the fifth category, 20 questions in sixth category and 25 questions in the final category. In total, there are 100 questions.
Marking scheme
All the courses, namely B.A., B.Sc. and B. Com have 100 marks each as part of their written entrance exams. For each correct answer, candidates are awarded 1 mark. However, there’s no negative marking for incorrect responses or unanswered questions.
Mode & duration
AMUEE is conducted offline in pen and paper mode through the use of OMR sheets. All candidates must answer their papers in English only. The duration of the exam is 2 hours.
