British Council has launched the second edition of its STEM scholarship programme for women in collaboration with 26 public and private universities from the UK to provide financial assistance to female students across the world. In total, around 100 scholars will be awarded this grant-in-aid, out of which 65 scholarships are reserved for women STEM aspirants from India and other South East Asian nations. The scholarship will be awarded based entirely on merit and economic condition.
Earlier, in 2021, British Council had offered this scholarship to 119 female STEM scholars during the summer and autumn academic sessions. Out of them, 19 scholars were from India. This scholarship programme is part of British Council’s efforts to support women looking to acquire global credentials in STEM learning as well as encourage more young women to pursue STEM as a career option, in order to bridge the gender gap in science, technology and innovation as well as academia. The popular STEM courses under this scholarship programme that young female scholars can apply for in UK universities are: Data Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, Public Health Systems, Information Technology, Renewable Energy & Energy Management, and Project Management.
