When a city or town is built from scratch, renovated or simply goes through maintenance, a group of individuals is required to create the designs, plan the landscape and infrastructure and manage the entire project. These individuals need to have an educational background in city/urban planning and architecture. The courses offered include Architecture Design, Conservation & Regeneration, Architectural History & Theory, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Transport Systems, Urban Infrastructure, Urban Housing, Urban Management, Furniture Design, Interior Design, Building Products & Systems, Building Energy Performance, Geomatics, Structural Engineering & Design and Construction Engineering Management. Various courses on these subjects are offered many institutions including The Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology, Ahmedabad (CEPT). This institute conducts a national level entrance exam, once every year, for admission into its 3-year Under Graduate (bachelor’s degree) courses.

Exam pattern
CEPT entrance exam has a single paper with 100 multiple choice questions (MCQs). The paper is divided into four sections of 25 questions each, namely: Visual Perception and Logical Reasoning, Mathematics and Physics, English and General Awareness (current affairs), and Drawing, Sketching and Creativity. The syllabus will cover any 10+2 curriculum and focus on topics like, basic design, lateral thinking, perceptions of 3D and 2D objects, scales and proportion, and interior space attributes.
Marking scheme
The CEPT entrance exam has a full mark of 100. There are four sections of 25 marks each. Each correct answer is awarded with 1 mark. There’s a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer. However, there’s no negative marking for unattemped questions.
Mode and duration
CEPT entrance test is conducted through offline pen and paper mode. Candidates can answer their papers in English only. The duration of the exam is 3 hours.
