Snapshot of the Grand Finale
During the final round, which was conducted on Zoom and Quizizz platforms, renowned quizmasters, Dr. Navin Jayakumar and Avinash Mudaliar tested the finalists on a variety of topics, ranging from science and popular culture to sports and general knowledge. The questions were of two types: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) or type-in ones. Each question carried 1000 points and participants were marked not only for correct answers, but also for speed. That was, in fact, the differentiator.
The Finale commenced with an explanation of the answers from the Prelims round. This was an opportunity for the participants who couldn’t make it to the Finale to understand and recalibrate their performance and see where they went wrong. Additionally, it gave budding quizzers a chance to learn something new and exciting while encouraging them to participate in future quizzing events! “One of the wonderful things about online quizzing is that it has brought a lot more people to take part together in a quiz, which no offline quizzing could do. It’s amazing to see participants from different parts of the country all in one shot on a Zoom call,” said Dr. Jayakumar.
The 175 finalists were all set and well-prepared to take on the array of fun and brain-tickling questions. The Grand Finale consisted of 30 questions in total. Some of the notable ones were:
A: Baby Shark
A: Round
A: Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi
There was also an audience round giving 25 lucky winners a chance to win exciting prizes. Every 6th question asked was for the audience. Some of the questions were:
A: Pineapple
A: H.D. Deve Gowda

This way, ClassAct 2022 served as platform for exchange of knowledge and ideas between the participants, viewers and quizmasters.

Grand success
The response to the Grand Finale of ClassAct 2020, the Hindustan Times Republic Day Quiz, was, in one word, spectacular. Thanking the participants, Mr. Mudaliar said, “I’m overwhelmed to see the turnout for the Prelims. I have never seen a Prelims of this large a turnout. such a large turnout in my entire life. We have seen responses from players from countries like Guatemala and Ethiopia, countries which were only answers for us in quizzes. This is not a winner-takes-it-all quiz. We wanted to completely change that entire format. We wanted it to reach more masses. So, it’s one step towards socialism that way.” HT School is looking forward to the conduct other such similar quizzes in the near future! “We also plan to build a community on quizzing on HT School. Here, we try to put the cool into school covering what you don’t learn in your syllabus,” he added.
