Google offers scholarship for undergraduate female students

Tech giant Google has recently announced a scholarship for female students who are pursuing under graduation courses in the field of computer science. The scholarship, called ‘Generation Google Scholarship’ has been introduced to fund the higher education (degree courses) of women and enable them to contribution to the rapidly emerging field of technology.

Meritorious female students with a commitment towards equity, diversity, inclusion, innovation and academic performance will be awarded this scholarship. Here is everything you need to know about this scholarship.

Eligibility criteria

Only female candidates are eligible.
Candidates must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate (bachelors’ degree) course for the current academic year (2021-22)
Candidates should be in their first or second year of under graduation programme under any accredited university in the Asia-Pacific region.
Candidates must be pursuing an under graduate degree in computer science, computer engineering or other related technical fields.
Candidates having exemplary academic record, strong leadership qualities and passion to improve representation of minority groups in the development of the technological field will be given preference.

Benefits
USD 1000 or INR 74760 will be awarded to selected candidates every year. The scholarship will be given for a maximum period of two years.

Application procedure

Eligible candidates can visit the Google Careers for Students official website and fill out the relevant application form.
Documents like academic records from current educational institutions and resume/CV highlighting participation in community activities and technical assignments must be uploaded.
Candidates also need to submit answers to two short essay questions.
Shortlisted candidates will need to attend 15 minutes ‘Meet & Greet’ session online.
Once the application portal is closed, all the shortlisted candidates will be sent a Google online challenge that they need to qualify to go on to the next rounds.

The short essay questions that candidates need to answer during the application are as follows. They should be answered in English and the word limit is 400.
