Movies are not only a source of entertainment. They are an immensely powerful medium that can educate and influence young minds, widening their canvas and helping them build a strong value system. Keeping this in mind, HT School organised a movie festival from 9th to 12th May for students across Delhi-NCR. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, directed by American filmmaker and producer, Sam Raimi and Jersey, directed by Indian film director and screenwriter, Gowtam Tinnanuri, were the two movies screened during the fest.
Students from more than 15 schools were part of this fun initiative by HT School. The participating schools include ASN Senior Secondary School, Mayur Vihar; Ryan International School, Mayur Vihar and DAV Public School, Srestha Vihar, among others. Pratham Goel, a Class 12 student from Ryan International School, seemed delighted with a real movie outing, after a two-year pandemic-induced hiatus. Talking about his experience, he said, “It was a great exposure attending the screening for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness by HT School. We thoroughly enjoyed the thrill and action in the movie.”
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Hindi, 2D) was screened on all four days at Delite Cinema. Jersey, on the other hand, was screened for two days (May 10th and 11th) at Carnival Cinemas Star X, Shopprix Mall, Vaishali. Bhumija Chopra, TGT English, ASN Senior Secondary School, Mayur Vihar, thanked HT School for organising this motivating movie viewing experience for the students. “It was fun especially getting out of our houses after two long years of the pandemic,” she said.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Directed by: Sam Raimi
Dr. Stephen Strange, a famous neuro surgeon, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, awakens from a dream in which he is fighting a demonic entity to save a teenage girl. Strange and fellow sorcerer Benedict Wong team up in an alternate realm to protect America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), who is being hunted across Manhattan by a massive one-eyed octopus-like creature. Strange and Wong determine that they must save the girl and the globe after discovering that the monster is an agent of the true villain who wishes to control America's abilities.
Life lesson: Trusting our abilities to bounce back from any setback in our lives is one of the important life lessons the movie teaches us. When Doctor Strange goes through a very low phase, his mentor motivates him to trust his own abilities all over again and rise to the occasion.
Jersey
Directed by: Gowtam Tinnanuri
Jersey is Tinnanuri’s Hindi directorial debut and is a remake of his 2019 Telugu film of the same name. It tells the story of Arjun Talwar, played by Shahid Kapoor, an incredibly brilliant Ranji player who quits cricket at the age of 26. Ten years later, he decides to restart his career and return to the game.
Life lesson: The movie explains us how we should not resort to shortcuts even when going through a tough phase. In one of the sequences of this movie, the protagonist is shown trying to make money through playing rummy (a game of cards) which eventually results in losses.
