Jamia Millia Islamia entrance exam for aspiring humanities students
Humanities is one of the most popular UG college programmes in India. It is a broad field that includes art, design, law, mass communication, architecture, vocational training, languages, history, geography, sociology, philosophy and so on.
For students who are interested in humanities courses can apply to Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi. The institute conducts a national level entrance exam, one every year, for undergraduate aspirants who wish to pursue degrees such as B.A. Honours and B.A. LLB. This admission test is usually held in the month of June across seven Indian cities. Here’s everything else aspiring candidates need to know.
Eligibility criteria
- All candidates must be citizens of India with valid identity proofs and should be between 17 and 22 years as on 1st July of the year of admission.
- Candidates should have successfully passed their class XII board exams with 50 percent or above with all core subjects if they belong to the general category. Candidates belonging to the reserved category like ST/SC/OBC and PWD are given a relaxation of 5 percent.
- Candidates should have studied compulsory English as part of their 10+2 curriculum.
- Candidates who are yet to appear for their school finals are also eligible for this exam. If selected, they need to submit their final marksheet of the qualifying exam within 60 days of admission.
Exam pattern
The UG entrance exam of Jamia Millia Islamia contains a single paper with 100 multiple choice questions (MCQs). The paper is divided into two parts, Part A and Part B. While Part A is common for everybody and contains General Aptitude, Logical Reasoning and English Language Assessment; Part B focuses on the specific subject for which the candidate has applied. Both sections have 50 questions each. The syllabus follows that of any 10+2 curriculum of any recognised Indian school boards.
Marking scheme
The total marks of Jamia Millia Islamia UG entrance exam is 100. For each correct response, candidates will be awarded with 1 mark and for each wrong answer they will get a negative marking of 0.25. However, there will be no mark deduction in case of unattempted questions. The paper is divided into two sections that have 50 marks each.
Mode and duration
The mode of the exam is online via computer-based system. Candidates can answer their papers in English only. The duration of the exam is 1 hour and 45 minutes.
