Kahoot: All about this new teaching platform

Learning has become more fun with so many exciting tools and applications available in the virtual world. Kahoot is one such platform that has risen sharply in popularity through 2020 and 2021. It is an application that delivers learning through exciting games, quizzes, and other interactive formats. Quizzes are particularly easy to create and share.  

What is Kahoot?  
Kahoot is a website and tool where lessons can be set up as games that students can play either individually or in groups. Teachers provide students with multiple-choice questions. Each question is to be framed within 95 characters, remains on display for 5 seconds to 2 minutes, and offers 4 choices. Students' login via their username, answer the questions on their personal devices, and receive points on accuracy and promptness. After each question is completed, the correct answer and the scoreboard of the highest point earners are displayed. Kahoot can also be incorporated into live online classroom sessions.

Kahoot is fun and interactive for both students and teachers, as neither gets bored and can manage quizzes from home at their convenience. Here are some popular practices based on app features noted as trending on Kahoot through 2021.  

Presenting a new topic is easier: Kahoot can assess what students know about a topic and what are the gaps via a survey prior to a class lecture. So, teachers can tailor the material accordingly.  

Teaching vocabulary, terminology, and definitions is convenient: Fast paced questions make language learning simple and language courses very popular via Kahoot.   

Student opinion polls provide feedback: The opinion poll feature makes it easier for teachers to assess students, deliver what they need, tailor discussion topics, and teach via case studies where polls are used instead of quizzes.  

Gamified course review makes test prep easy: Students particularly enjoy Kahoot’s gamified learning material review feature. On the other hand, teacher go through the same game to understand students’ thought process.
