Everyone is talking about gamified learning, because it’s convenient, and well, it actually works. School students who have always run away from certain subjects they found difficult, are now lapping them up because study hours feel like play hours. Over the past year, we have seen a boom in learning apps. Kahoot, the mass quiz app, is the market leader. We will look at 2 more apps that take up the quiz model and turn it into a lesson game plan.
Quizizz: Memes can be more effective than marks
Quizizz is a miniature game show-style quiz tool available as an app and a website. It also gets integrated easily with Google Classroom and a few other similar apps. Quizizz is clearly influenced by Kahoot, but it introduces certain navigational advantages and fun responses that makes it easier to use.
How does Quizizz work?
Teachers have to create an account, but it's optional for students, who access the quiz using an OTP. Teachers can use the searchable database of hundreds of quizzes, or create their own. Quizzes can also be arranged into collections per topic. Answers are displayed on the screen once the student is done. Teacher feedback comes in the form of memes! Yes, that is how it happens, and humour works better than a scolding or praise.
Baamboozle: Group learning promoted thorough games
Baamboozle is another free online game site and app. It also doesn't require registration to play. It comes with some pre-saved quizzes. Registration is required only when the user wants to create a custom quiz.
How does Baamboozle work?
Baamboozle is being used widely as a study-quiz app. The class is being divided into teams. Each team has to choose a number from the game board and answers the questions that follow. The app is also being used for light hearted class tests. Many institutions have integrated it into their class space on Google or added it to their own app. Given the way it works, Baamboozle is particularly well-suited to online courses and classes. That also accounts for its popularity during the lockdown.
