A 10-year-old Mexican schoolgirl Adhara Perez and a 12-year-old English schoolboy Barnaby Swinburne are now two of the smartest kids in the world. According to Mensa High IQ Society, an international IQ forum based in the UK, they belong to the same league as science geniuses Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. Their individual scores in the IQ test conducted by this forum are 162, the highest score ever, in the under-18 age group. In fact, it is often said that people with IQ scores of more than 140 are ‘near’ genius or genius. Though Einstein and Hawking never underwent IQ tests, experts believe that their respective scores will be at 160 each. Spread across 100 world nations including USA and India, Mensa High IQ Society was founded in 1946 to create a high IQ society regardless of political, racial, ethnic, gender, age or religious distinctions.
Who is Adhara Perez?
Adhara Perez is a 10-year-old Mexican girl whose journey from being a ‘weird kid’ to the ‘wonder kid’ has been no less than extraordinary. Since the early years at school, Perez had to face her own set of challenges as she was constantly bullied at school and was even called ‘weirdo’ from time to time by her peers. So, she was even included in the autism spectrum. Teachers often complained to her parents she was inattentive or sleepy during her classes, which is when her mother realised that her daughter knew more than most kids of her age, including senior class algebra and periodic table.
In late 2021, it was discovered that was a gifted child had an IQ of 162, thanks to Mensa’s bi-annual IQ test. Perez fought back all autism related stereotypes with support from her parents and managed to finish elementary school by the age of 5 and middle school by the age of 6. Not surprisingly, she even finished high school at the age of 8. Currently, Perez is pursuing Industrial Engineering in Mathematics at UNITEC and Systems Engineering at CNCI (online). Impressed by her excellent record, many universities from the US, including the University of Arizona, wished to offer her 100 per cent scholarship for higher studies. Unfortunately, she still hasn’t been approved for the US visa yet. Forbes magazine in 2021 has named Perez among the 100 most powerful women in Mexico. Perez’s ambition is to work for NASA and colonise the red planet, Mars.
Who is Barnaby Swinburne?
Barnaby Swinburne is a 12-year-old boy from Bristol, England, who took the IQ test in late December when his family obliged his request for the same as part of his Christmas present. As soon as his record IQ score became a news across England, the Mensa High IQ Society welcomed him as one of their members. Mensa accepts individuals whose IQ range falls in the top two percent of the world’s population. The child prodigy’s score falls in the top one percent. After joining Mensa, he once again sat for their IQ test, in which he again emerged victorious.
In the first test containing images and sequences, Swinburne scored the highest possible marks for a child, while in the second test containing language skills, the boy secured a place among the top 4 per cent of the global population. Swinburne is fond of Mathematics, Chemistry and Stock Market and plans to become a programmer in the future. He wishes to attend Oxford University and has been arranging funds by investing into cryptocurrency for some time now. He enjoys sports during his free time and has been quoted saying that it is his path to self-discovery.
