Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) 
Located in the heart of Pune, FTII proudly holds the title of being the most famed and acclaimed acting colleges in India. It falls under the Government of India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and provides a buffet of film-related courses to choose from  including direction, screenplay writing, editing, cinematography, sound recording, screen acting, etc. It is a highly selective institute with each course having12 seats available. Applicants are required to qualify for its entrance exam in order to be considered. Some of its notable alumni include Om Puri, John Abraham, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, along with many more.  

Barry John Acting Studio (BJAS) 
Mumbai’s Barry John Acting Studio has produced some of the biggest Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Manoj Bajpai, Varun Dhawan and Sushant Singh Rajput among others. It also has a campus in Delhi, and is funded by the Theatre in Education Trust. One can choose from a variety of certificate and diploma courses in film acting, film arts, theatre, etc. This is a relatively easy institute to get into as there is no particular selection process unlike other acting institutes. All one needs to do is fill an application form. 

National School of Drama (NSD) 
The National School of Drama, located in New Delhi, is an autonomous organisation under the Government of India’s Ministry of Culture. It was established in 1959 by the Sangeet Natak Akademi. It offers unique film-related courses like modern or classical Indian drama, theatre music, mime and movement, etc. Applications are examined by a committee which selects 26 students per course. A requirement is to produce and perform a play towards the end of the course. Anupam Kher, Irrfan Khan, Neena Gupta, Ashutosh Rana, etc. have all graduated from this institute.
