Social media giant WhatsApp is currently working to roll out new features for its users soon. Considering how this messaging app has become an integral part of our day-to-day lives, especially teenagers, the company is aiming towards enhancing user experience.
Earlier this year, this messaging app introduced a newly-updated Privacy Policy, which was not received well by the customers and, the company had to face a heavy backlash. In the end, they had to take back the controversial update. Recently, WhatsApp CEO William Cathcart and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg appeared in an interview, where they shed light on the future update plans for WhatsApp. Based on this interview, here is a low-down on the five upcoming features that WhatsApp is planning to launch.
Multiple Device support
Users have been demanding multiple device support for years. Finally, a beta version of this new feature will be available for download in a month or two. Currently, it is undergoing trials by the company to analyse its benefits. The feature allows users to access the messaging platform from multiple devices without the need of keeping their smartphones nearby.
Zuckerberg has also ensured that the multiple device support will not compromise the end-to-end encryption that WhatsApp is offering for all personal chats.
Disappearing mode
Whatsapp is planning to launch an updated version of the Disappearing Messages feature, which started in November 2020. Users have to manually enable the option and once the feature is enabled, chat threads will automatically get deleted after some days.
The company hasn’t revealed exact details on whether the feature will be updated with the timer option or not.
View Once feature
Zuckerberg confirmed that the ‘View Once’ feature will be the latest addition to Whatsapp. It will allow users to share media that can be seen just once, be it a photo or a video. It is not completely a new feature though. Instagram and Snapchat have this feature already. Once the receiver has viewed the photo or video, it will disappear from the chat. Users will require to manually turn on this feature.
Missed group calls
To enhance the group video call experience for friends, families and colleagues, Whatsapp is planning to launch a new feature that will allow a user to join group call later if he is not able to do so at the beginning. A beta version of the feature was launched, back in October 2020 for Android users and now, it is being tested for iOS users.
WhatsApp Read Later
The feature aims to replace the Archived Chats feature and make it a seamless experience for users. Currently, when someone chooses to archive any chat in WhatsApp, it hides it in the archive section. However, when a new message arrives, the archived chat automatically pops up on the top of the screen. In the Read Later feature, the archived chat won’t be brought back.
