3 DIY activities your youngsters can try this Holi 

Holi is just around the corner. During the festival of colours this year, keep your kids engaged creatively with these fun and easy-peasy activities. Help them follow the step-by-step guidelines shared here.  

DIY Water Gun 
Playing with water guns during Holi is a fun-filled exciting activity for all youngsters. Now imagine if they can make their own water gun, their fun will be doubled.  

Materials required 

• Old 500ml plastic bottle 
• Old newspapers 
• Fevicryl paints 
• Scissors or Metal skewer 

How to 

• At first, ask your kid to take an empty and old plastic bottle, that is neither too big, nor too small. 
• Now, they need to take a big newspaper and spread it on a work table to avoid any colour stains.  
• Next, place the bottle flat on the newspaper and pour fevicryl paints on the bottle. The goal is the mix different colours to make it look decorative and Holi-like.  
• Hold the bottle through its mouth and roll it over to spread the colour throughout. 

• Let the bottle dry for a day. 
• Next, supervise your kid while he or she takes the lid off the bottle and makes a hole in its centre using a metal skewer or simply a pair of scissors.  
• Once the bottle is fully dry and ready to be used, ask the kid to fill it up with colourful water, cap it, and squeeze it during water gun fights.  

DIY Rainbow Crayons 
Crayons bought from the market are nice, but self-made crayons, especially to gift friends and family can be dear to kids. Moreover, there are always old broken crayons lying around that kids no longer wish to use. Holi is the perfect time to recycle and give them a brand-new shape.  

Materials required 

• Old, broken crayons of different colours 
• A knife 
• A ruler 
• A microwave proof bake dish 
• A microwave oven 

How to 

• Firstly, ask your kid to peel off the stickers from the crayons and sort them as per their colours.  
• Now, help them cut the crayons into 2 inches pieces using a ruler and a knife.  
• Help the child to arrange the crayons in the bake dish following the VIBGYOR pattern for added fun.  
• Now, help them bake the crayons in the oven at 225 Fahrenheit for 10 to 15 minutes.  

• Finally, take them out and let them cool for a few hours before popping them out of the moulds.  

Green Holi colours 
Yes, organic Holi colours available in the market are safe, however, making DIY colours (homemade gulaal) with natural chemical-free ingredients at home is more fun and exciting. To add to that, they will make Holi safe and rash-free.  

Materials required 

• Henna powder 
• All-purpose flour 

• A sieve 

How to 

• Take the sieve and mix 2 table spoon of henna powder with the same amount of all-purpose flour. 
• Once again sieve the mixture to make sure that the colour is a smooth green. If needed, use a spatula to keep mixing it until the green colours pops out.
