With the COVID scenario improving in India, students can now gradually go back to their schools. In fact, after much consideration, most states across the country have started reopening schools for offline classes. While New Delhi schools had reopened for classes 9 to 12 on 7th February, today it reopens for classes 1 to 8. On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh, that had so long delayed the reopening of schools have chosen today, 14th February, as the day to restart physical classes for all standards. Karnataka too has decided to reopen schools for senior classes although Section 144 is highly anticipated. Fortunately, most other states have already reopened schools or are soon going to do so.
As your kids start going back to school, here are our tips to help you ease their (and yours too!) morning routine and get rid of all the last-minute rush.
Feed your kids a healthy dinner
If your kids have a good and uninterrupted sleep, they are bound to be more proactive in the morning. In order to ensure that they get enough sleep, a belly full of nutritional diet is vital. This is why choosing filling foods that are high in nutritional value before bedtime can be extremely effective. Proteins, fats, fruits and vegetables and above all, milk, have been proven time and again to be good sleep inducers. Food products with high sugar content and caffeine should be avoided at all costs as they hamper sleep schedules.
Create an early to bed, early to rise routine
This has been proven to improve social and emotional development of kids while keeping them up and about during school mornings. The key is to engage in a completely passive routine at least half an hour before the scheduled bedtime. Bedtime rituals like visiting the loo, reading story books, or listening to music, all should be done before dinner. Also, screen time before bed should be avoided at all costs.
Set an active evening routine
If kids are engaged in the evenings and have an active time where they play, exercise, do their homework and indulge in hobbies, then by the time they have had their dinners, they automatically start to feel tired. This will help them sleep early and better.
Prepare for the mornings beforehand
Make a to-do list for the school mornings and try to wrap up most of the tasks the night before. This will keep your and your kids’ mornings smoother. Some of the tasks that you can finish off in advance include keeping the uniforms ready, packing the school bags and getting your kids to finish school assignments. You can also complete the preparation for the lunch box in advance while cooking the food in the morning.
