If you've been on Twitter in the last week or so, you've probably seen an increase in people posting Tetris-style blocks made up of yellow, green, and grey squares. Two random numbers and the term "Wordle" are frequently displayed with the graphic. As of January 14, 2022, ‘Wordle’ has been mentioned 8,40,000 times on Twitter since its release in October 2021, according to Twitter. Brooklyn-based software engineer, Josh Wardle is credited with creating the Tetris-style word game that has taken the world by storm now.
Wordle is a free, web-based word game available only at powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle. The aim of this word puzzle, which can be played only once a day, is to guess the word of the day where a player gets six chances to guess a five-letter word. Colour-coded boxes assist the player in placing letters in the correct order. The game tells how many letters from a player’s guess are in the solution for each word guessed by them. If the boxes are coloured yellow, they're in the solution, but at the wrong spot. If the boxes are coloured green, they're in the solution in the right place, and if all of the letters are grey, none of them are in the solution.
Considering the immense popularity gained by this word game over the last few weeks, let’s find out how you can get started on playing Wordle.

Tips and tricks to ace Wordle
Here are a few tips that can help your kids score better at Wordle. Encourage them to follow these smart tricks.
Get the vowels right: A five-letter word is unlikely to have more than two vowels, if any. Therefore, getting the vowels, or at least one vowel right on the first try can help you get to the correct word faster. For example, using the words ‘waned’, ‘cable’ or ‘pious’ can be helpful for the first or second attempt as they contain the vowels ‘a’, ‘e’,’ i’, ‘o’ and ‘u’ leading to higher chances of getting an answer right.
Guess the right consonants: After getting the vowels in the right place, players should focus on the commonly used consonants such as ‘s’, ‘t’ and ‘r’. While positioning your letters and pressing 'Enter’, keep in mind the coloured boxes indicated in the game. Make sure you don't use the greyed-out letters again.
Use American spellings: Wordle has been known to use American spellings. Favor, for example, was the answer to Wordle 207. It's the American spelling of the word 'favour.' This has sparked some controversy, but it's a useful fact to keep in mind as you go through the puzzle.
