If boys dream of becoming Iron Man, Spider Man or even Batman, who do girls want to be? Yes, they want to become Wonder Woman. One of the most loved superhero characters of all times, Wonder Woman was created for DC Comics by American writer and psychologist William Moulton Marston (pen name Charles Moulton) and artist Harry G. Peter. In addition, it was Israeli actress Gal Gadot who made Wonder Woman live and iconic on screen.
Now, recently, in order to pay tribute to the iconic legacy of Wonder Woman, a seven-and-a half-foot tall bronze statue of Wonder Woman was unveiled at Warner Brothers Studio, in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Turns out, this was part of a special event that was jointly organised by DC Comics, Warner Brothers Discovery and Visit Burbank to kick off the 100th anniversary celebration of Warner Brothers.
Okay, but why Wonder Woman? Well, according to Pam Lifford, the President of Warner Brothers Global Brands, Franchises and Experiences, it is because Wonder Woman, as per their research, is the world’s most popular DC superheroes of all time. She believes it is because she is a feminist icon, alongside being a champion of truth, justice, and peace warrior. Several sources also cite that Wonder Woman is an integral part of the company’s heritage and history, and from now on will also be a permanent part of not only the Studio Tour but also the whole identity.
For those unaware, the creators of Wonder Woman based it upon their respective life partner Elizabeth (Moulton’s wife) and Mary Olive Byrne (domestic partner of Peter) who were the inspirations behind the character.
Wonder Woman first appeared in print in October 1941 as part of All Star Comics #8. She was characterised as a demigoddess, who lived in the fictional island nation called Themyscira. There, her official superhero identity is that of Princess Diana, while her civilian role is called Diana Prince. She is founding member of the famous DC Comics’ Justice League (the team of superheroes like Marvel’s Avengers), apart from being the part of Justice Society of America and Department of Metahuman Affairs (fictional realms of DC superheroes). She has seen to be partnering with Superman, Batman, Artemis, as well as The Flash. She is immortal and also possesses super human strength, agility, speed, stamina, intelligence, senses and reflexes. She is invulnerable during the dark and has regenerative healing powers. In addition, she is a martial arts expert.
