Smartacus 2022: Step-by-step Guide for the Selection Round
HT School has created an ecosystem for students that is buzzing with events, communities and workshops. The latest offering in its bouquet of events is Smartacus 2022, The Hindustan Times National Interschool Quiz. The Selection round of this all-India online school quiz will be conducted on 15th August from 2 PM-3 PM.
Students can register for Smartacus 2022 for free here till midnight on 14th August. It will be hosted by two of the most illustrious quizmasters of the country, Dr. Navin Jayakumar and Mr. Avinash Mudaliar. Both of them also hosted HT School’s first quizzing venture ClassAct 2022, The Hindustan Times Republic Day Quiz, which went on to create the world record for ‘Maximum Participation in an Online School Quiz’.

The Selection for Smartacus 2022, The Hindustan Times National Interschool Quiz will be conducted asynchronously on Quizizz, a learning platform.

1:30 PM: Reporting time for all registered students. Grade-specific Quizizz links along with the Selection Round instructions will be visible on the Smartacus 2022 event page from this time. These will also be sent to the registered email IDs as well as WhatsApp numbers between 13th and 14th August. Choose the link that pertains to your grade. There will be two links for each grade and you can choose either of them. All contestants are expected to read through all the instructions and complete their Quizizz login/sign-up by 1:55 PM. 2 PM: The Selection Round quiz will commence.
3 PM: The Selection Round quiz will close for submissions.
Participation guidelines
- Ensure to start the quiz at sharp 2:00 PM (IST) to be considered part of the world record.
- Participate in the Selection Round of Smartacus 2022 from your personal mobile or laptop. Using your parents’ company laptop / desktop may result in functionality issues owing to the firewall.
- Use the same email ID with which you registered for Smartacus 2022 to sign up on Quizizz. In the ‘Your Quizizz name is…’ field, enter your registered email ID and NOT your username. Using a different email ID or entering a name for participation on Quizizz will lead to disqualification, and you will NOT be considered for an award or the world record. You will also NOT be eligible for the following rounds of Smartacus 2022, if selected.
- You need to stay on the quiz till 3 PM, and only exit the Quizizz screen after the host has ended the quiz, to avoid disqualification. You will get a notification when the host ends the quiz and. At the end of it, you will be taken to a screen that will display a summary of your performance. You can then close the Quizizz tab.
- The Selection Round will comprise 60 questions, plus 2 additional slides to ensure students stay on Quizizz till 3 PM and are included in the world record. Do NOT write any response in slides 61 and 62 nor click Submit. If you complete the 60 questions prior to 3 PM, stay on slide 61 and then slide 62 till the timer of 15 minutes for each screen runs out. Ensure that you adhere to the instructions mentioned on the slides, to ensure you are NOT disqualified.
- The Quizizz link will be open for a period of 60 minutes.
- There will be two formats of questions in the Selection Round: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and type-in questions. For all type-in questions, your answer must match exactly with the answer that has been plugged into the software.
- For visual-based questions, you can click the visual for an enlarged view. Click the close button at the top-right corner to close the enlarged view and return to the question.
- The 60 questions will be timed at 60 seconds each. Quizizz will automatically move to the next question after the time given for each question is complete.
- For MCQs, you must click an option. Quizizz will then automatically move to the next question. You can NOT reattempt a question once you have clicked an option.
- For type-in questions, type in your answer in the textbox provided and then click the Submit button or press “Enter”. You can NOT reattempt the question once you have submitted the answer.
- For type-in questions, do NOT use dots, hyphens, apostrophes, commas, accents, or any other special characters in the textbox provided.
- The type-in answers are NOT case sensitive. For example, if your answer is “amitabh bachhan,” you can type “Amitabh Bachhan”, “AMITABH BACHHAN”, or “amitabh bachhan.” Tip: Save time and type in lower case!
- In case you have NOT yet completed the quiz by 3 PM (IST), the Selection Round Quizizz link will close and all the answers you have selected will be auto submitted.
- Do not consider the score displayed at the end of the quiz as your final score / ranking. Your final score / ranking will depend on the performance of ALL the contestants who participated in the Smartacus 2022 Selection Round, across all links. The scoring is entirely automated, and the decision of the quizmasters will be final and binding.
Troubleshooting of technical issues
Make sure you have good internet connectivity throughout the quiz. However, if you drop out of the quiz due to a technical issue at your end, log in using the same device, using the same registered email ID, and click ‘Resume attempt’ to start from where you dropped off.
If you Start Over, you will be disqualified. The host will end the quiz at 3 PM (IST) on August 15. In case you are NOT able to access your grade-specific Selection Round Quizizz link or face any other issues, call up at +91-95133-19722 or email at support@ht-school.com
Announcement of Selection Round winners
We will reach out to you via your registered email ID and mobile number within 72 hours of the completion of the Selection Round. The top 20 winners of Smartacus 2022 will also be displayed on the Smartacus event page.
- The individual winners of the Smartacus 2022 Selection Round will win exciting prizes, but HT School cannot guarantee their presence in the Preliminary Round, as participation in the round will only be based on the performance of the schools.
- 16 top-performing schools from each zone—North, South, East and West—will make it to the Preliminary Round, on an invite-only basis.
