Today’s new-age students are aware that very soon they have to compete with not only their peers in school but the ones spread across the country. Yes, we are talking about school-leaving exams that can often be stressful, so much so, that preparing for them might seem to be challenging and at times even impossible.
After all, the syllabus of such board exams is often never-ending. Perhaps that’s where the experience of participating in an Olympiad can come in handy. Take the Hindustan Olympiad for example. It is meant for all school kids of grades 1 to 12, who will be competing with their peers beyond the classroom. For them, Olympiad feels more like a competitive game than an exam, where they do not suffer from exam fever but can stay focused yet relaxed, not to forget excited.
So, participating in the Hindustan Olympiad can be a good idea. In fact, the 8th edition is just around the corner. Scheduled to happen in three levels in both online and offline modes from 11th to 18th March, Hindustan Olympiad 2023 is powered by edtech platform SpeEdLabs, has Oswaal Books as its book partner and is presented by Amrita University. Sharing his insight, Br. Maheshwara Chaitanya, the Director of Admissions, Dy. Controller of Exams (Amritapuri campus) and Director (ICPC Asia Amritapuri) of Amrita University says, “Partnering with Hindustan Times has always been fruitful. Competition such as Hindustan Olympiad helps build confidence among the children, which is very much essential in the 21st century. Amrita believes in overall development of the students, not just academics.” Interested candidates can register for Hindustan Olympiad for INR 200 till 22nd February on the official website. Participating in Hindustan Olympiad will give the opportunity to grab cash scholarships worth INR 50 lakh, coveted trophies and exclusive media exposure.
But how do you prepare for an Olympiad without constantly worrying that the time is running out? Yes, it can be quite a challenge but these practical tips will make it a lot easier.
Initiate an organising spree
What you need to understand is that normal school routine can’t come to a halt just because you are about to appear for the Olympiads. Instead, what you can do is go on an organising spree. You can ask your parents or other family members to help you become organised. You can start with decluttering your study desk and room. Next you should pay better attention to your health. You should also remain as aware as possible of what is going on around you and your responsibilities. The goal is to not stress at the last moment but head start the preparation a few months or weeks in advance. That way, putting in just a few hours every week will cover the entire syllabus leaving aside time for revision. Last but not the least, make sure to prepare a schedule for yourself and try to abide by it as much as possible. This will ensure that your school life do not get in the way of Olympiad preparation and vice versa.
Familiarise with the syllabus and previous year question papers
Olympiad syllabi are always available on the website or with the school authorities if you have enrolled through them. Likewise, previous year question papers are also available online for all kinds of Olympiads. Get these as soon as you register and start preparing accordingly. The more time you spend on covering the syllabus followed by looking at the old questions, the better preparation you will have. So, go get Olympiad ready!
Start tracking study hours and mock tests
Like we have already mentioned, you start with making yourself a schedule. But what’s next? Well, you make sure that you stick to it. In fact, if you can’t do that on your own, feel free to ask for your family’s help. Request them to track your study hours and monitor the mock tests. The goal is to time it all from the very beginning so as not to feel rushed in the last moment.
Train yourself to finish mock tests on time
Here are some quick tips to complete mock papers on time. Firstly, read the paper thoroughly before starting, ticking off the questions in the order you will attempt them. It’s best to start with the ones to find easiest, followed by medium ones and keep the most challenging ones for the end. Also, make sure to take a guess if there is no negative marking.
Though simple, these suggestions can help you become ready for Olympiads.
