Dubai: The very name conjures up the image of a city full of skyscrapers standing in the heart of the grand Arabian Desert. Isn’t that, right? Talking of skyscrapers, Dubai is also home to the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa.
But what if we told you, that isn’t the only structure in Dubai that holds a Guinness World Records? That’s correct! Turns out, the Storm Coaster, located in the Dubai Hills Mall has recently been declared by the Guinness World Records as the world’s fastest vertical launch roller coaster. How exciting is that! This brand-new and exciting news was announced via a special light and sound show on the side of the Burj Khalifa.
Okay, so if it’s indeed the world’s fastest roller coaster, what is the speed? Well, it’s a whooping 41 kilometres per hour, and moves along a 670-metre track. But that isn’t only why this roller coaster is special. In fact, the Storm Coaster is a unique integration of roller coaster and building made to look like a single structure; thus, setting it apart from other indoor roller coasters.
Okay, what else? For starters, the fastest ride of its kind has been unveiled earlier this year (in the month of February) and is still a fairly new attraction in Dubai. It has been constructed and is now maintained and owned by Dubai-based Emaar Entertainment LLC. The roller coaster is also described as a “multivehicle inversion coaster wrapping its way throughout the entire (mall) building.” In fact, it is powered by magnetic LSM motors and has a capacity to take riders more than 50 metres up into the building.
In case you have been wondering about its duration, it lasts for two minutes and 15 seconds. The tickets per head cost 65 Dirham for 3 rides. This thrilling, one-of-a-kind indoor roller coaster is also lauded for its pre-ride experience and exhilarating vertical drop.
Interestingly, the Dubai Hills Mall also houses the Middle East’s largest cinema screen called Roxy Xtreme, that is 28 metres by 15.1 metres in size, almost twice that of a tennis court. Sounds crazy, isn’t it? And guess what? It was only unveiled in the end of August this year.
Do you know where the world’s tallest roller coaster is located? It’s in New Jersey, USA and is called Kingda Ka. It has a height of 456 feet or near about 45 storeys.
