Are you an avid gamer with a penchant for history, especially India’s struggle for independence? Well then, here’s good news for you. Now, there’s a new set of smartphone games based on our country’s freedom movement. How fascinating is that? Known as Azadi Quest, these games have recently been launched by the Government of India.
Celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with ‘Azadi Quest’ games
Earlier this year, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had set up a task force on animation, visual effects, gaming and comic sector. The aim was to boost indigenous production as part of Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. As part of this project, the Government of India has unveiled Azadi Quest, the brand-new series of indigenously developed mobile games highlighting the accounts of India’s freedom movement. They will educate young Indians about our country’s historic struggle for independence. These have been designed and developed by Zynga Game Network India, a private and domestic game-building company. The stories have been consolidated by the Publications Division and Indian Council of Historical Research. This launch is part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ campaign as India is celebrating its 75 years of independence this year.
A sneak peek into Azadi Quest
The ‘Azadi Quest’ game series is going to have more than a dozen engaging and interactive games. As of now, the idea behind the first two games have been revealed. They will feature the key milestones of the freedom struggle as well as the stories of unsung freedom fighters. The name of the first game is ‘Azadi Quest: Match 3 Puzzle’. It is described as a “simple and easy-to-play casual game presenting the players with the colourful journey of India’s independence from 1857 to 1947.”
The ‘Azadi Quest’ games will be available for both Android and iOS users, in Hindi and English. They will be out in the market across the globe from September. Sources suggest that the Union Government is eager to make India rise to the number one spot with respect in the gaming arena. At present, it is in the top 5 with a growth rate of 28 per cent from 2021 to 2022. The number of Indian gamers is also expected to reach 45 crores by 2023.
