In a unique initiative to promote STEM education among underprivileged children, Help Alliance India, the aid organization of Lufthansa Group, is supporting 600 students for the HT Code-a-thon 2021. These students will be drawn from Classes 4 to 9 at Help Alliance supported projects pan-India, including street-children and slum-children studying at the Aasraa Trust in Dehradun and Project Sunshine in Delhi.
The chance to participate in the India’s biggest coding Olympiad is an opportunity of a lifetime for these children. The 20-hour-long online training at the HT Code-a-thon will help them develop computational and structured logical thinking, cultivate problem solving techniques as well as build innovation and creative skills. Getting access to such valuable technical training and showcasing their skills on a national platform opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Pushing boundaries beyond their curriculum catapults students to an accelerated path to success.
“We are deeply committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goal of inclusive and equitable quality education for all,” says George Ettiyil, Head of Lufthansa Group Airlines, South Asia. “Over the years, we have been supporting various organizations engaged in providing education to underprivileged children in India. Our partnership with HT Code-a-thon takes this commitment a step further by offering these disadvantaged students a golden chance to prepare for a tech driven future.”
Among the education initiatives supported by Help Alliance across India are ongoing projects in Puducherry, Khandwa, Dehradun, Gurugram and Delhi. In addition, its recent ‘Lufthansa Calendar of Hope’ campaign brought together 500 donors to raise over INR 13 lakhs to help provide much-needed food, clothes, medicines, masks, school supplies and more to street-children in India.
