Robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) are branches of computer science that aim to build machines for performing mechanical tasks requiring human intelligence and abilities. Starting from medicine and defence to construction and appliances, AI-enabled robots are used in a wide-ranging variety of fields. The word robot was first applied as a term for artificial automata in a 1920 play named R.U.R. It was penned by a Czech writer Karel Capek. Robots are basically programmable machines that come in various shapes and forms depending on their functions. Not all of them use AI or look like humans. India’s first human-shaped robot (humanoid), known as Manav, was developed in 2014.
