A skull, preserved almost perfectly over 140,000 years, was found at Harbin, north-east China, in 1933 and only recently came to the attention of scientists. The ancient skull is said to belong to a completely new species of human and has been nicknamed Homo Longi or "Dragon Man" as a reference to the region where it was discovered. It is claimed as our closest evolutionary relative among known species of ancient human, even more so than Neanderthals. The Dragon Man's skull is huge, with a brain size about the same as the average for our species (Homo Sapiens).
