Any form of art, including theatre, is the reflection of society. Dramas or plays have been a very ancient form of art mirroring the time they were was created in. India has a theatrical heritage of 5000 years. India, as we know, is a land of diversity and it applies to theatre as well. Each region of the country has witnessed the evolution of its very own and original form of theatre. The popular forms of North Indian theatre include Nautanki and Bhand Pather while those from the south are Yakshagaana and Therukoothu. East India, on the other hand, can boast of Jatra and Raasleela. On the western part of the country, Bhavai has been the most popular form of theatre.
