The 2023 edition of the Golden Globe Awards, a recognition of outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television, was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on the night of 10th January 2023. It was broadcast on NBC and live streamed on Peacock. The results were also announced on their official social media site and was later shared with the global media.

Golden Globes Award: What is it all about?
Golden Globes Award is one of the most popular international awards in the field of entertainment and is conferred for outstanding contribution in the world of cinema and television during the previous year. It is conducted every year in early January by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), a non-profit group of international film journalists and photographers. In terms of honour, Golden Globes comes second right after the Academy Awards or Oscars (for films) and the Emmys (for television). Usually, this mega award event is televised live by broadcasting partner NBC. After last year's Covid-19 induced hiatus, this year the Golden Globes red carpet was back with members of global film fraternity bestowing it with their gracious presence.
Categories of Golden Globes Awards
There are multiple categories in the Golden Globes Awards. To begin with, the film awards include Best Motion Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Film, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Original Song and Best Music under the categories: drama, animated film, foreign film and comedy or musical. Apart from these, supporting actors are also honoured.
The television awards include Best Drama, Best Comedy or Musical, Best Miniseries along with Best Actor and Actress from each genre. A lifetime achievement award is also conferred every year to a legendary film or television performer.
How are the Golden Globes winners selected?
At present, HFPA comprises of 105 members, all of whom cast ballots to select a pool of nominees ahead the Golden Globes. Thereafter, another guest panel comprising of 25 to 30 members from the international film and television media (comprising of notable spokespersons) come forward and make their choices. The winners are thereafter selected on the basis of the maximum votes.
History of Golden Globes Award
Golden Globes originated in 1944 as an initiative of the then founded Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association that was headed by a group of US based entertainment journalists who worked for publications both inside and outside the USA. Till 1954, Golden Globes was only conferred to people working in the movies. However, in 1955, when the conducting body was restructured and renamed as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), Golden Globes shifted its focus to both movies and television alike. From 1965, the award gala started being broadcast live.
