Have you seen the movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009)? It’s an animated film in which the protagonist invents a machine that can create food from water. In reality, a similar machine exists, but instead of producing food, it produces water! Water scarcity has become a major and alarming issue that requires immediate attention. To combat this crisis, several techniques have been devised to save water. These include rainwater harvesting, grey water recycling and pressure-reducing valves. But none of these methods has come close to solving the water scarcity crisis, that is, until the atmospheric water generator (AWG) machines came into the picture. An Israeli company called Watergen has developed a machine that can turn air into clean drinking water.
Since its inception in 2009, this technology has startled the world. If you’re wondering if the water produced by the machine differs from the water you drink, don’t be concerned. The quality and taste of the processed water are identical to regular water.
How does the technology work?
Watergen has the potential to provide humanity with a sustainable source of drinking water. But how does this cutting-edge technology work? The clue is in the name. Watergen. The gen stands for GENius module technology.
It has five steps. When air is passed through the machine, the first step is to remove any dust particles that may be present. It then proceeds to produce water from the humidity present in the air. Low humidity is also not an issue for them. Watergen’s device can generate water in environments with humidity as low as 20%. Quite impressive, right? The water is then treated to kill any contaminants before being stored. The final step is to pour fresh, clean water into your glass. So, how much water do you believe this device can produce? It can generate up to 5 litres of water while using only 1 KWH!
The many benefits of AWG
This device has numerous advantages and has proven to be a huge success. But why do you need an atmospheric water generator? One of the most significant advantages of such generators is their low cost. There are no operating costs. Also, the machines being self-contained, they consume almost no electricity! It would be an excellent machine for hospitals, schools and residential and commercial buildings. Producing clean water while saving electricity is like hitting two birds with one stone.
The machine’s features could be even more useful in emergency and medical situations. Having the machine on any rescue or food service unit will help families find drinking water. If you are going to remote locations or camping in the woods, you must bring plenty of water bottles. However, if you have an AWG, you can get clean water wherever you go. For people who travel to deserts, what a boon this invention could be!
