If you are a fan of Marvel Comics or Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies, then Thor is a name that you are all familiar with, right? This Norse God of Thunder has been featured in both the comics and movies of Marvel along with the mythical city of Asgard. According to the Norse mythology, Asgard is the home to a mighty pantheon of Gods, including Odin (God of wisdom) and Thor (God of thunder). They also believe that it is one of the Nine Worlds or realms and a tiny planetoid. Asgard, also known as the Realm Eternal, is believed to be situated in the centre of the Milky Way galaxy. But this isn’t all about Thor and his home. There are some weird aspects of Asgard that have been woven in the MCU movies revolving around Thor. Want to know about them? Read on.
Asgard floats in a sea of space
In the MCU movies Asgard is situated on a ’Sea of Space,’ a water body on which the entire realm floats. This sea has a surface, and Asgardian ships that resemble Viking longboats, are used to sail across this sea. However, Asgardians must be cautious not to approach the cliff face too closely lest their vessel plummets into the outer space. There are other Asgardian bodies of water too that are connected to this Sea of Space. While the Sea of Marmora connects to Nastrond (Corpse seashore), the dragon Fafnir chews on corpses.
Weather works differently in Asgard
In Asgard, the weather operates differently as compared to Earth. Asgard goes through a distinct season depending on where you are in the realm. In the realm, there are some locations where summer lasts forever, while others have a never-ending winter! Incredible, isn’t it?
Asgard is a flat planet!
Asgard, unlike Earth, is a flat realm. It does not revolve around a Sun or spin about its own axis. Asgard does experience night and day cycles that last for an unspecified duration, indicating that sun-like objects or forces might exist. Even though Asgard is flat, some invisible force prevents Asgard’s boundaries from collapsing and all of its water from leaking over the side and evaporating into the outer space!
Asgardians are stronger than humans
The flesh and bones of an average Asgardian are much stronger than an average human. While not all Asgardian citizens are Gods, they are all naturally stronger compared to human beings. This helps their bodies fend off diseases that would otherwise plague us.
A tree connects Asgard to other realms
Standing tall in Asgard is a tree called Yggdrasil. It isn’t just any old tree but a cosmic connection between the other nine realms and Asgard. All these realms are connected by the roots and branches of the tree.
