The CBSE and ICSE are the major national level exam boards of India. While the basic facts about these exams are known to all students, very few Indians know the history behind the establishment of the ICSE Board. There is also a lack of knowledge about some surprisingly common facts such as how many exams the board conducts and other activities of the board. We are going to look at these today.
A quick timeline of the ICSE Board
Here’s a very brief history of the ICSE board and exams:
What are the examinations ICSE conducts?
The Council conducts 3 exams: the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE – Class X), The Indian School Certificate (ISC – Class XII) and the Certificate in Vocational Education (CVE - Year 12). The scope and syllabus of the exams are very different from each other and all offer subject choice.
ICSE Board conducts these competitions
The Council conducts 2 all India competitions. These are the Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School Debate and the Albert Barrow Memorial All-India Inter-School Creative Writing competitions. The aim is to encourage creativity and effective articulation of thoughts among school children.
ISCE has recognition in UK?
The National Admissions and Accreditation agency of the UK, UCAS (Universities and College Admission Services) recognizes ISCE at par with the Higher School qualification of the University of Scotland.
ICSE was the first board to publish online results
Back in March 1999, the Council's website first provided the results of the ICSE and then the ISC. This was the first time an Indian board published results online.
