Immortality is an unattainable desire that all of us, humans nurture. What if we told you there exists a place where people live without the fear of death? Well, it is there, but only in legends and folklores. However, many researchers and scholars are in the quest of finding this mythical land and prove its existence. The place we are talking about is known as Gyanganj, a kingdom that is believed to be located in the Himalayan region of Tibet. While there are many stories and legends surrounding Himalayas and Tibet, the legend of Gyanganj remains the most intriguing. Let’s unravel the mysteries of this legendary place that is also known as Shangri- La, Shambhala and Siddhashrama.
Mysteries surrounding Gyanganj
Gyanganj, it is believed, is an ancient kingdom. The reference of this place has been found in several Buddhist texts. However, till date, the exact location of Gyanganj has not been deciphered. It is believed that this place is perfectly camouflaged from the prying eyes of humans. Some theories also suggest that the land is on a different plane of reality, which explains its absence from satellite images! Wait, it gets even more mysterious. According to various ancient texts, Gyanganj resembles a lotus with eight petals. At its centre is the tree that unites Earth, heaven and the underworld. Gyanganj is surrounded by snowclad mountains, like a faraway mystical kingdom. Interestingly, this place not only finds mention in Buddhist texts, but also in Hindu scriptures such as Ramayana and Mahabharata. However, in these books Gyanganj is referred to as Siddhashrama. Legends would have us believe that the immortals of Gyanganj nurture and protect the spiritual teachings of all faiths and beliefs.
Reaching Gyanganj
It is believed that only the accomplished can reach this magical land. Saints who are devoid of all their sins and bad karma can find this place after crossing past their physical barriers and dimensions. Some ancient Buddhist texts have a few instructions to reach Gyanganj too! But people find these directions incomprehensible, adding to the legend that only accomplished yogis can find it! According to the Buddhist monks of Tibet, during the time of great chaos in the world, one leader from the spiritual land of Gyanganj will lead the world to a better age.
Chinese government failed to locate Gyanganj too!
There have been several attempts to locate this place. In fact, even the Chinese government could not resist! They conducted several satellite scans of the area to locate Gyanganj but failed. Their search was fuelled by the intent to find technologies that the yogis might be using to reach there. Even the American president Franklin Roosevelt, after hearing about the existence of Gyanganj, was determined to find it. The Americans referred to this place as Shangri-La (Shambhala). The Central Investigation Agency has also made several attempts to locate the area. Roosevelt named the US Navy Aircraft Carrier as well as his secret vacation home as ‘Shangri-La.’ What is most intriguing is that even modern satellites and mapping technologies fail to find it! So, truth or tale, remains to be seen!
