5 art residencies aspiring young artists can explore

School or even art class may not be enough fodder for the hardworking creative brain of young artists. Enter the concept of art residencies. These are art ‘camps’, complete with all the facilities and fun of a resort, but aimed specifically towards teaching and promoting art. Young artists get to interact with others, pick up ideas, trends, and techniques, find mentors, get exhibited, and ultimately, find buyers. Here are some art residencies that talented young artists can explore.  

Khoj International Artists Association, Malviya Nagar, Delhi   
Khoj is an established studio, whose mentors are very encouraging and supportive towards upcoming artists. They appreciate creativity and experimentation through art. Their workshops usually last a month, ending in an exhibition. Khoj has exhibition spaces, accommodation for artists, studios, a media lab and a multi-purpose space for screenings and presentations. 

Sanskriti Foundation, Delhi 
Sanskriti works to preserve traditional Indian art practices.They support young and upcoming artists through awards and fellowships. Their pottery programs are very well known. Sanskriti is ideal for enthusiasts of sculpture, visual arts, textile designs, ceramics, and architecture. They have accommodation, exhibition spaces, a library and media facilities. 

What About Art? Bandra West, Mumbai  
This residency in Mumbai accepts and encourages all forms of visual art, including sculpture, installation, painting, and video. They provide specialised services and back-up for art projects and installations, and help in the production and preservation of art collections. Their residency has accommodation for both curators and artists, with facilities for exploring video-based projects also through exhibitions, screenings and workshops. 

Art Ichol, Khajuraho, Bandhavgarh Highway, Madhya Pradesh  
Art Ichol is an experience worth in itself. Divided into sections for writers and artists, The Maihar Heritage Home section is specially for ceramics and pottery, while the Amaria serves as the writers’ workshop. They have beautiful rooms, a studio for painters, an art cafe, supplies for artists, exhibition space, and interaction zones. They also have an organic garden, that allows artists to feel close to nature in the scenic setting. Art Ichol is well known for promoting collaborations among artists, which is an advantage for young practitioners.
