In the current times, we need internet and Wi-Fi networks to perform many essential functions of our daily lives. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that high speed Wi-Fi networks have become an indispensable part of our lives. So, a next-generation Wi-Fi system has been invented with state-of-the-art technology to offer a wide connectivity range of up to 1 kilometre without consuming too much power. It will also ensure high performance rate and a more secure connection. According to several reports, it has also got its necessary certification from the country’s Wi-Fi alliance.
This long-range Wi-Fi has been created with the intention of making the services of ‘Internet of Things’ or IoT smoother, as the world keeps moving towards advancement in the field of technology in order to make our lives easier and better.
Wi-Fi HaLow: How is it different from normal Wi-Fi?
The traditional Wi-Fi we use every day for our office work, education, and entertainment works on the radio frequencies of 2.4GHz to 5GHz. This lets us transmit large amount of data (texts, calls, media etc.) over a short span of time. In contrast, the-soon-to-be launched Wi-Fi HaLow will operate in the 1GHz frequency. This spectrum offers longer range of transmission allowing the Wi-Fi signals to travel greater distance (as far as 1 kilometre radius) than the conventional Wi-Fi.
The two most promising features of Wi-Fi HaLow are that it supports 8000 devices all at the same time, alongside having the capacity to penetrate walls and other solid barriers, making the wireless connectivity a lot more comprehensive.
However, the speed of this new Wi-Fi system is slower than our regular Wi-Fi courtesy its lower spectrum. However, it is not really a disadvantage from the point of view of agricultural, industrial or logistic sectors, as they need longer distance rather than high speed internet for their day-to-day functions. It will also be instrumental in building smart cities.
When will the Wi-fi HaLow be launched?
The Wi-Fi alliance is yet to decide on the official launch date of Wi-Fi HaLow. However, following its recent certification, it expects to launch across major Indian cities, by the second quarter of 2022.
