There is no one who hasn’t ever misplaced something. We forget our mobile, car keys, purse, bags, laptops and a host of other things when we are in a hurry, cleaning up a room, caught up with work and preoccupied – the reasons may be many – but the dismay is the same when we can’t find it. Apple has come up with a solution to locating lost items. It’s a trending gadget, and teens and tweens seem to love it the most.
What is Apple AirTag?
The AirTag is a tiny tracking device that can be attached to any object. Its location can be detected via GPS tracking and on getting tracked by the connected Apple app, it makes sounds to helps us find it. It is a small, lightweight, stainless-steel disc with the Apple logo on one side. AirTag is dust and water resistant. It has a battery that lasts about a year with daily use, and can be removed easily by opening the lid. The current pricing for India starts from ₹3190 on Amazon.
How does the AirTag work?
AirTag sends out a secure Bluetooth signal that is then detected by connected devices nearby. The devices send the location of AirTag to iCloud, where we can go to Find My app and see AirTag’s location on a map. Imagine going to Find My App and saying ‘Hi Siri, find my mobile’, hearing a sound from the devices built-in menu and finding your phone! But that means you need to first attach AirTag to items like mobile, purse or key ring. In case we have left the device behind somewhere else, we can locate it in Find My Network where all Apple devices show up.
Is Apple AirTag a secure device?
AirTag is safe and can be used by anyone above 12. Only the user can see AirTag’s location, and data and history are not saved in the app. Even the device we use to locate AirTag remain anonymous. It also plays a sound when separated from the owner’s device range and within the range of another device. In fact, many parents are buying it as a security device to counter stalking.
