Every year the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) conducts a national level admission test for undergraduate students who have successfully passed their class XII board exams and are interested to pursue B.Stat (Hons) or B.Math (Hons). This year’s entrance exam of ISI was held on July 18th. The admission process consists of both theory exam and interview and meritorious students who qualify both these levels are admitted into ISI’s academic programmes. Candidate’s history of academic performance is also taken into consideration while evaluating his or her merit. This entrance exam is held across the country in a number of centres. In 2022, registration of ISI admission test will tentatively start from the month of May. Here’s everything else one needs to know about this admission test.

Exam pattern
The admission test of ISI has a written paper with two mandatory sections. Section 1 has multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that is conducted in the morning session, while Section 2 has descriptive questions that is conducted in the afternoon session. There is total 30 MCQs in the first section focussing on Maths and statistical knowledge as well as logical analysis. In the second section, candidates are asked to write essay answers to reveal their basic knowledge of English, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering and Technology. The syllabus is of 10+2 levels with emphasis on Physics, Mathematics, English and Logical Reasoning.
Marking scheme
Section 1 has 30 marks for 30 MCQs. Each correct answer will be awarded 1 positive mark. No mark will be deducted for incorrect or unattempted answer. Section 2 has 70 marks. The marks division varies from year to year. The total marks of ISI admission test are 100. Candidates have to secure qualifying marks in both the sections to sit for the interview.
Mode and duration
The ISI entrance exam is conducted in the pen and paper mode. The first section comprising of MCQs is solved on an OMR sheet. Candidates are only allowed to write their paper in English. Both section 1 and 2 have the duration of 2 hours each.
