Engineering is one of the most popular career choices in India, other than medical. There are thousands of colleges and universities, both government and private, all across India, dedicated to the study and research of several engineering and technological programmes.
One rivate engineering college that aspiring engineering students look forward to is Manipal Institute of Technology (affiliated to Manipal University). Once every year, they conduct a national level entrance exam called Manipal Entrance Test (MET) for undergraduate degree programmes like B.Tech and B.Pharma. This year, however for the first time, MET will be conducted in two sessions, first one in April and the second one in June. Application window has been opened on their official website since 9th December and it will close in the end of March. Here’s everything else aspiring candidates need to know.

Exam pattern
Manipal Entrance Test comprises of a single paper that is common for all candidates and contains 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). This paper is divided into 4 parts, namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English and General Aptitude (logical reasoning and current affairs). While Physics and Chemistry section consists of 50 questions each, Mathematics section has 70 questions and the English and General Aptitude section has 30 questions. The syllabus follows that of any science stream from the 10+2 curriculum.
Marking scheme
MET contains 200 objective questions and therefore has a total mark of 200. Each correct answer is awarded with 1 positive mark and each negative answer is penalized with a deduction of 0.25 marks. However, there is no negative marking for unattempted questions. While both Physics and Chemistry sections contain 50 marks each, the Mathematics part contains 70 marks and the English and Aptitude section has 30 marks.
Mode and duration
MET is conducted online via computer-based mode. The exam is conducted in English only. The duration of the exam is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
