Quizzing used to be one of the most-loved school events during our childhood. A large cross section of adult Indians remember the fun of growing up with quiz contests aired on good old television. However, in the tech-driven world of today, especially in the post pandemic era, online quiz competitions have become a rage all over the world including India.
Keeping this in mind, Hindustan Times decided to host India’s biggest online quiz competition for school students. And guess what, the Grand Finale of the quiz will be hosted by India’s celebrated quizmasters Dr. Navin Jayakumar and Avinash Mudaliar. While the Grand Finale will start from 3 PM tomorrow and streamed live on the official page of ClassAct 2022, The Hindustan Times Republic Day Quiz, the Prelims round was concluded on 23rd January. It saw participation from students worldwide. There were registrations from as many as 50,611 students of Grades 1 to 12, from all around the world including 32 countries and 5 continents. The total count of students who participated in the Prelims was 32,644. With such a massive participation, ClassAct 2022 is expected to break all records in the realm of online quiz. According to the Guinness World Records official website, the online quiz named Camden Council and Corporate Challenge, held in Australia, saw the largest participation in October 2021. The number of participants in the contest was 2,328.
For the Prelims of ClassAct 2022, highest number of registrations was witnessed from grade 5: 4,998. The largest cohort in terms of registrations was from grade 5 to 9: 24,563 out of 50,611. This makes for 48.5% of the total number of registrations. Here is a detailed snapshot of the national and global participation in this quiz so far, as well as the man-woman ratio.
Man-woman Ratio
Unfortunately, India has very few women quizzers. However, interest in quiz seems to be increasing among women. At least, the man-woman ratio in terms of registration for the ClassAct 2022 would have us believe so. Close to 60 per cent registrations were seen from girl students, while the percentage of boys was slightly above 40. Echoing this trend, Dr. Jayakumar has been quoted saying in an interview with HT School, “The participation of women and girls in quizzing is on an increasing trend, with several women quizzers, such as Jayashree Mohanka and Ramya Mudaliar, in the fore.”
