TISS or Tata Institute of Social Sciences conducts a national level entrance exam every year for candidates who are interested to pursue B.A. in Social Sciences and Social Work from any of the three campuses of TISS at Hyderabad, Guwahati or Tuljapur. This year the exam was held on 19th September across 21 cities in India. Here’s everything else high school students need to know about this admission test for the following years.

TISS admission test has two papers, paper I and II.
Paper I contains multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and covers topics such as current affairs, general knowledge, English proficiency, logical and analytical reasoning, data interpretation and Mathematics. All these topics are covered in the curriculum till Class XII.
Paper II contains essay-type questions on social issues. It judges the candidates’ social concerns, opinions and abstract thoughts on them. Usually 4 topics are provided, only 2 of which need to be attempted. They should not be less than 500 words each.
Candidates who secure the qualifying cut-off marks in the admission test have to sit for a personal interview that carries a weightage of 50 marks.
Marking scheme
Paper I consists of 60 marks with 40 compulsory MCQs. Paper II has 40 marks, 20 marks for each essay. This makes the total marks 100. No negative marking is there.
Mode and duration
Paper I is online, i.e., computer-based and is for 60 minutes. Paper II is conducted in the pen and paper mode and is for 30 minutes. Both the exams occur on the same day with a half an hour break in between. Candidates can write the papers in English only.
