Ahead of the Qualifier, the quizmaster shares his pearls of wisdom with the participants as they gear up for Switch Hit – Hindustan Times Cricket League Quiz.
Love the game, remember the Name
Watch all the matches passionately and intensely, even those not featuring your favourite team. Not only will you enjoy the ‘cricketainment’, but the players, and their emotions and the spectacle they put on show will stay with you long after the season ends.
Know thy stats, be it balls or bats
Develop an abiding interest in the numbers and records behind the sporting drama as well. You will become aware of rare nuggets of cricketing statistics and lore, precious facts that most people are unaware of. Don't remain satisfied with such discoveries - try and learn 5 or 10 other related things about what you discovered. In quizzing, like in cricket, it is always the ‘extras’ that matter in the end!
Sharing is caring
Be a part of an active community, group, club, or society that meets regularly and discusses the matches together with gusto. It is only by interacting with like-minded cricket lovers and trivia buffs that your own cricket IQ will develop, grow, and become sharper with frequent use. Remember, those who quiz together, grow together.
Sharpen your saw, do lots of net practice
The more you watch the tournament’s games, listen to experts' analysis, and learn the finer points of the game, the better you will become at answering any question that the quizmaster throws at you. Just as net practice makes Suryakumar Yadav a 360° player, for you too, “SKY” is the limit as long as you keep practising!
Match practice makes match winners
Get into the habit of participating in as many cricket and T20 cricket quizzes as you can, at as many levels as you can, and as often as you can. Watching matches, listening to experts, reading, and knowledge-gathering is useless as a quizzer unless you test your mettle in the heat of battle by crossing swords with other cricket buffs like yourself. Only when we come up against a variety of quiz-mastering styles and a variety of quizzing oppositions do we truly realise how good (or not-so-good!) we really are. Remember, it does not matter whether you win or lose. If you win, you remember those answers only once...but lose once because of a bad answer or two, and you will never forget those facts till the end of time!
Quiz long and keep Switch Hit-ting!!!
