What’s happening in this experiment?
Bubbles in the above experiment consisted of a thin film of soap made up of three layers: A layer of water in between two layers of soap (one on the inside and one outside the bubble). Now, when this sandwiched layer of water gets a chance to evaporate, the bubble bursts. However, when glycerine is added to the solution, the thickness and density of the solution enhances, creating a barrier that slows down the rate of evaporation. This makes the bubbles stronger and bigger as well.
Also, soap works better than other liquids as it has lower surface tension (force that holds liquid molecules together and gives them elasticity). This means soap allows easy formation of bubbles as the molecules in it are held loosely together.
